    Dec. 27, 1932 – July 19, 2012
    Robert Allen Maiden
    Robert “Bob” Allen Maiden, Major (Retired), United States Air Force (USAF), 79, of Huntsville, Alabama passed away on Thursday. A long-time resident of Huntsville, Bob was born in Salem, OH, and grew up on a small farm in Warren, OH next to small airport where his lifelong pursuit of aviation began. Bob joined the United States Air Force at 17 and retired after 26 years of service to his country. He married Nelly Ruet (deceased) in France in 1957 and they had two children, Robin and Natalie. Bob flew two tours in Vietnam, was stationed in France, Germany, Panama, and numerous duty stations across the U.S. He retired from the USAF in January 1976 settling in Huntsville, Alabama. Bob earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Park College in MO, in 1976.
    After Nelly’s death, Bob married Geneva Price in 1998 spending time in both Huntsville and Florida. Bob is survived by his wife of 14 years, Geneva; sister, Louise Warner of Charlotte NC; son, Robin Maiden and wife, Suzanne G. Maiden; daughter, Natalie L. Maiden and wife Vanessa L. Griffin of Silver Spring MD; grandson, Max Maiden, third generation pilot; his step-children Johnny and Connie Johnson, Matt and Beth Shirley, John and Carla Brown, and Lisa and Chris Sloan; his step-grandchildren Samantha Schrader, Rachael and Billy Wood, Kyrsty Sloan, James Brown, Mandy and Rick Curren, and Heather and Thomas Guerra; and five step-great-grandchildren Seth, Maddox, and Reece Curren, Jack Guerra, and Mitchell Williams. Bob was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Gertrude Maiden.
    The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the members of the Comfort Care Hospice. Their dedication and effort to provide quality care is greatly appreciated by the entire family. Samantha Schrader was instrumental in providing care during his decline.
    A memorial service will be held honoring Bob on Sunday, July 29, 2:30 pm at Berryhill Funeral Home, 2305 Memorial Parkway NW, Huntsville, Alabama 35810 , officiated by Reverend Dan Anderson. His ashes will be interred in a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Comfort Care Hospice, 11227 Alabama Highway 157, Moulton, AL 35650 or the Experimental Aircraft Association, Chapter 190, Young Eagles Program, c/o Jim Harchanko, 9602 Todd Mill Road, Huntsville, AL 35803.

  2. Bob Maiden has slipped the surly bonds of earth and now dances the skies on laughter-silvered wings. He’s done a hundred things in his lifetime that you and I have not even dreamed of–wheeled and soared and swung high in the sunlit silence. Up, up the long delirious, burning blue, he has topped the windswept heights with easy grace. And now, with silent lifting soul he trods the high untrespassed sanctity of space, has reached out his hand and touched the face of God.
